By Ruth Clemence
As a district nurse, Rosabel was liable to come across a bigger cross-section of people than most of us, and by the nature of her work she was usually inclined to be tolerant of them all - but she found her tolerance more than normally strained by the odd newcomer Robert Carr. He just didn't seem to fit into any category: was he a tramp, a hippie, a drop-out, or what? Perhaps Rosabel found herself particularly exasperated by him because she couldn't help feeling that he was capable of leading a more responsible life than the one he had apparently chosen. And why, anyway, she asked herself crossly, should he be occupying so much of her thoughts?
