The crystal nights of stagestruck high school junior Elly are shattered by reverberations from the real Krystalnacht as her cousin Margot, Aunt Anna and - after a year in a concentration camp - her Uncle Michael escape from Hitler's Germany to share her family's crowded Connecticut farmhouse.
