An introductory bibliography for the study of scripture

"The aim of this ...annotated introductory bibliography...[is] to present a list of titles of reasonable length with which the student who is beginning theology or the study of Scripture in a serious way might do well to familiarize himself/herself. It is hoped, not that such a student would read through all these books, but that he/she would acquire some acquaintance with them. In the various disciplines which make up the complex of Scripture studies there are many books to which the beginner might turn. But often he/she is at a loss in trying to decide where to begin or to discover which are the standard, reputable authors in the discipline in which interest is being stirred. It is the [author's] hope that this revised bibliography...will guide such beginners to basic titles and enable them to judge others accordingly, and to become acquainted with the most important secondary works" -- Preface.
