The Name of the Wind (Book 1, 2007): This debut novel introduces Kvothe, a man who is now an infamous adventurer, musician, and magic-user, living under an assumed name as an innkeeper. The majority of the book is a first-person flashback as Kvothe begins to recount his extraordinary youth to a chronicler. The narrative covers his childhood in a traveling troupe of players, his time as a near-feral orphan in a crime-ridden city, and his audacious entrance into a legendary school of magic (the University) to seek answers about the supernatural beings (the Chandrian) who murdered his family. The Wise Man's Fear (Book 2, 2011): The story continues with Kvothe's narrative on the second day. An escalating rivalry with a wealthy, powerful noble at the University forces him to leave and seek his fortune abroad in the country of Vintas. The book details his entanglement in courtly politics, his time training with an elite group of mercenaries called the Adem, a journey into the Fae realm where he meets the legendary Felurian, and his ongoing quest for the truth about the Chandrian and the ancient Amyr. The Doors of Stone (Book 3, unreleased): This is the anticipated final book in the main trilogy, which will conclude Kvothe's life story.
