Contains transcriptions of records taken from colonial court records, 1675-1775 and from the General Assembly sessions, 1709-1776 and 1777-1789. The records contain references to wars, murders, petitions, Indian traders, casualties, Indian slavery and other matters related directly and indirectly to Indians. Also includes an appendix with excerpts from North Carolina laws concerning Indians.

These records mention the following early tribes and chiefdoms which existed in North Carolina: the Croatan, Yawpim, Waccamaw, Occaneechi, Matchapungo, Maherrin, Currituck, Chowan, Tuscarora, Poteskites, Waccon, Saponi, Mattamuskeet, Pasquotank, Hatteras, Coree, and Sara or Cheraw Indians; the Secotan, Chowanoc, Mortac, Weapemeoc, Pomouik and Neusiok Chiefdoms and the Bay or Bear River, Cape Fear and Neuse River Indians. Other tribes mentioned in the records are the Creeks, Choctaws, Chicksaws, Apppalachees, Cherokees, Catawbas, Shawanesa, Putestamies, Chippewa, Trevas, Twightwees and Hossew. The Mohawk and Seneca are mentioned in the colonial court records as instigators in the Tuscarora War.
