This book begins with a survey of interdisciplinary work in contemporary social and cultural approaches to literacy. The second section goes on to address key aspects of discourse studies and sociolinguistics. Finally, the third section develops a new interdisciplinary approach to the analysis of literacy, discourse and language in educational settings with special reference to cross-cultural diversity.
