Gemma Grantham and Bette Dickens decide to have a really luxurious holiday and pool their joint savings, they had seen pictures just like this in glamour magazines, smart sun brown girls in chic clothes in the south of France. Longing for romance they move into a suite at the fabulous Hotel Splendide, and to add excitement to their joy. The fabulous resort palace that loomed before Gemma seemed to promise a few moments of refuge from her dreary working world in the north of England. Perhaps here she could recapture the lost splendor of her once-fortunate life. Gemma pretends to be an heiress, falling into the clutches of Rudy Shore, a handsome fortune seeker. Excitement follows excitement, including a shipwreck off the Brittany coast, but true love finds a way.
