Shirin Neshat

Seducing with words, voices, gestures: these are the 'Games of Desire' presented in the film of courtship rituals made by Shirin Neshat at Luang Prabang (Lao PDR). Shirin Neshat came across them at the time of her first stay in Luang Prabang in 2005 and returned to film them in the autumn of 2008. In a very direct way they echo her concerns in the numerous works in which she has explored the boundaries between the sexes, the specificity of male and female territories and their distribution among public and private spaces. There is Shirin Neshat's eye and the keenness of her vision which, in this switching of the poitn of view on the joust, in this conciseness of the forms an dcentering on the faces, turn this oral tradition of another time into an art of presence."
