LIMITS OF EUROPEAN CITIZENSHIP: EUROPEAN INTEGRATION AND DOMESTIC IMMIGRATION POLICIES

Using debates in the Dutch parliament concerning issues such as asylum, resident status and nationality, this text demonstrates how the hesitant penetration of 'Europe' in these domestic debates evidences the continuing relevance of domestic politics for the extension of membership and the rights to non-citizens.
