This project seeks to explore the relations between current modes of academic practice and production which student's have access to alongside the "global youth" who have (potentially) called the conventionalities of academic practice and production into question in a significant way. While "Cultural Studies" has historically attempted to make "(sub)culture" its object of study in the academy, this project addresses the problematic of including and incorporating a technologically charged (in this case "youth") culture into academic practices. My focus is on DJ-ing and "remix" as specific aspects of youth culture. I am suggesting that "remix" could be an academic practice for students but that the contemporary academy has not tuned in to this practice as having methodological weight or potential pedagogic significance.
