This book was published in Great Britain in the 1850s, for the benefit of British people who were considering migrating to the U.S. to farm. It consists of letters written by the author as he traveled through Illinois and other locations. They cover topics such as soil conditions, overseas markets for wheat, railroads, modern farming equipment in use, availability and cost of hired labor, crop prices and yields, bank operations and availability of credit, taxes, health issues, land prices and more.
